Metal building insulation in Michigan presents unique challenges that traditional fiberglass cannot solve. Cold steel is a dew-point magnet — when warm interior air contacts a cold metal panel, water condenses, drips, and ruins everything underneath. Vehicles, equipment, hay, leather tack, woodworking tools, and finished interior spaces all suffer. The fix is closed-cell spray polyurethane foam applied directly to the underside of the metal envelope.

Closed-cell spray foam is the only correct material for steel structures because it expands to fill every flute, purlin, and seam, then cures into a rigid, vapor-impermeable barrier that bonds to the metal. This eliminates the dew point, prevents condensation, adds R6.5–7.0 per inch of insulation value, and increases the racking strength of the building. There is no separate vapor barrier required, no fiberglass to sag or harbor pests, and no maintenance for the life of the structure.

We mask windows, doors, and equipment, ventilate properly, apply the foam to manufacturer specifications, trim cleanly, and document the install.
